Blukar LED Rechargeable Flashlight – A Dog Walker’s Best Friend in the Dark

Blukar LED Torch Rechargeable, 500000 Lumens Super Bright

First impressions

I picked up the Blukar LED Flashlight earlier this week, mainly because the winter nights are drawing in here in the UK and my first walk with River starts at 0415 (it doesn’t get light until around 0700). To say I’m impressed is an understatement.

I’m usually really sceptical of cheap stuff like this on Amazon but, straight out of the box, it feels well made. At 248g, it has some heft without being uncomfortable, and the aluminum body looks ready to take a knock. The extras – carry case, charging cable, and battery adapters – make it feel like a complete package rather than a barebones light.

Brightness (and honesty check)

The listing’s “500,000 lumens” claim is marketing nonsense. No flashlight in this price range hits anywhere near that. But here’s the real truth: I’ve got a Fenix flashlight rated at 1,000 lumens, and this Blukar is noticeably brighter. It lights up an entire path with ease, wide enough to keep an eye on River without sweeping the beam back and forth. Zoom it in and you’ve got a serious spotlight reach.

Battery & charging (real-world test)

Blukar advertises up to 24 hours runtime from the built-in 5,000mAh battery. Normally I’d expect that figure to be wildly optimistic. But I’ve now used this flashlight every morning since Monday at 04:15 and again every evening — always on full power. By Thursday night, the battery indicator still shows 99%. That’s not just decent; that’s outstanding. Add in the fact it charges via USB-C and can also run on AAAs in a pinch, and it’s one of the most flexible lights I’ve handled.

Modes & usability

Five modes (High / Medium / Low / Strobe / SOS) are operated with one button. The best part: hold the button for 3 seconds and it switches off immediately, no cycling through every mode. The zoomable beam works as intended, giving you the option of a wide floodlight for walking or a narrow spotlight for distance.

Durability

IP67 waterproofing and a toughened aluminum body give it confidence in all weather. I’ve already used it in drizzle and damp, no issues. It feels like the sort of flashlight that’ll survive being dropped or kicked about in the mud without complaint.

Pros

  • Brighter than many “premium” flashlights I’ve owned.
  • USB-C rechargeable with AAA backup option.
  • Real-world runtime lives up to the hype.
  • Practical one-button operation with instant off.
  • Rugged and weatherproof build.
  • Excellent value kit with case and accessories.

Cons

  • “500,000 lumens” is pure fantasy.
  • Bulkier than pocket flashlights — you’ll feel it in a jacket pocket.
  • No lanyard or belt clip included, which would make it easier on dog walks.

Verdict

Forget the exaggerated lumen figures — the Blukar flashlight is the real deal where it counts. It’s tough, brilliantly bright, holds its charge far better than most lights, and is perfectly suited for those early-morning or late-night Malinois walks. A simple, reliable bit of kit that earns its place in a handler’s gear bag. For less than price of a dog collar it’s a no brainer.

I’ve also written about how I use minimal light during night training, and why dogs often perform better in the dark than handlers expect.
